All of this puts stress on the pavement, creating long cracks in a longitudinal (along the roadway) or transverse direction (across the roadway). Technically, yes, but the preparation and application is more tedious, time consuming, and technical than you may think, especially for a large scale job like a parking lot.
That depends on the weather, the amount of traffic, and the material used for the striping. If the traffic is light, the striping may last up to two years. In terms of materials, thermoplastic striping is thicker and more durable than paint and can be expected to last 3-6 years. The best rule of thumb with striping is to re-do it when it looks like it needs it.

Causes of Pavement Deterioration
Raveling
Exposure to the elements cause the liquid asphalt binder in pavement to oxidize and become brittle, and the weight of vehicles causes the now brittle surface to crumble. Water then washes away the crumbled aggregate, diminishing pavement thickness and revealing a rough, rocky appearance.
